Somone needs to have a chat with Freddie...

I'm going to start by stating that I'm a big fan of Fred Jones. He's a an good role player who should continue to help the Raptors win some games down the road. But SM needs to go over some numbers with him:

1) 72% of his shots are jump shots of which he makes almost 39%
2) 22% of his shots are close range shots (ie. layups) of which he makes 72%
3) 28% of his shots are inside shots (or shots in the paint if you will) of which he makes 74%

Conclusion? Take the ball to the hole! If SM is going to continue to leave Jones in the starting lineup -- and I think he shouldn't -- at least get him to be more effective. That is what coaches do. When he is coming down the floor on the fast break and he pulls up for the three -- this is one of the many points in the game when I cringe -- sit his down. I'm really only confortable with one player on the Raptors pulling up for a three in transition, Mo-Pete. So Freddie...please take it to the rim...would you please?

Hey nice blog site for the raps fan and your commentary is sharp and good.
I agree that Fred Jone should do more in the post, not just scoring, but also rebounding.
In the past few game, he is the one who gets fast break points in most cases. Freddy and TJ combine can out run most of the guards in the league, and Freddy has the build of a small forward to bang under the post, and able to jump high for offensive rebound. So he should hang around the post more often.
It is sad to see other then CB4 is the only dependable option forrebound. Anyone else can even be assigned to do the job ?
7 foot Andrea is too green to get in the post without giving away foul , when CB4 is constantly surrounded by 3 guys as soon as he passes the free throw line, Garbo seems to be the last option. Rasho is not the center what everyone come to expected, he does have a presence at the post when it come to raw body mass, but he can't run and he is too slow for anyone but full size center like him.
I think Sm needs to unleash PJ and Kris to do the reb and SM should challange these two youngster to get into a reb match every game giving them equal minutes.
On the other hand, I don't think demoting Mo is a good move for too long. I understand he did not do his defend assignment well, but by demoting him and replace with Fred will shake up the fragile relationship between the new comers and vets ( Mo and CB4 . How can Mo gain respect from the new guys when he got demoted few games into the season. And we know CB4 alone cannot carry all the work load to gel the team.
Another example of head on competition, Jose has improved a lot from last year, and TJ is feeling the pressure since the game where Jose perform well and hit the 3 pointers. Competition is healthy, but with SM demoting Mo, what message it sends to TJ ?
How can the team gel together when SM is introducing the pressure of getting replaced less then 10 games into the season.
Talk about SM, anyone notice he keep the same play over and over again despite the other team is alreay zoning the living daylight out of the team ? Is it just me or what ?! If we are to change coach, who is available ?
I will leave it at that.

Totally agree. We should have written in his contract that we would pay $500 for every dunk he makes during a game, and $100 for an attempt that ends up in him going to the line.

Nothing surprising is seen here..Raptors Fan will always rant on the bad games...(just like any other Sports Fan)

I jus hope The Raps win tonight (dont be surprised if they lose against the best team on the Eastern Conference)

Raptors need to practice Free Throws and Outside to 3 point shots. TJ Ford should stop being a shark. And Please, enough with the 100 shots a game, we tried it for the first few games and we lost. Face it, it doesnt work. If they make a shot, it better be a sure shot. Not a shot that they just choose to shoot because they are free, even if they aren ot comfortable with it.

The problem is that EVERYONE knows this about Freddy, so all opposing defenses sag off him, giving him the outside shot. Freddy has to attempt these shots because if he doesn't teams will sag off him so far it will clog up the middle and he'll NEVER get to the rim.

Last season in Indy, the exact same thing happened. Teams know Freddy can only hurt them by driving, so they give him the outside shots.

found a link to this on ESPN.COM not bad huh~!

While its hard to sit around and only blame SM, I do live in the states and hear form the TO media that he is getting a lot of flack in TO, that since the very start I always felt Sam is a good coach and will have his time to shine as one in the NBA, however ROOKIE COACH + ROOKIE TEAM = ROOKIE MISTAKES AND A BAD RECORD.... he is not BC's man, and as such i think they need to cut the cord on this one and be done with it....

cool blog good work, another good Raptors blog i read to keep up on my info is http://zackcooper.blogspot.com its a reporter who works with the Fan590 in Toronto who gets to follow the games for them, not a bad blog also should check it out...
